Orphaned, Abandoned but Not Alone. Through Christian education and care, we are nurturing a generation of children who will grow into leaders in their communities.
Empowering dedicated teachers to not only provide for their own families, but to pour hope, guidance, and opportunity into every child they teach—shaping lives, restoring futures, and raising a generation that will change the world.
At the heart of Tumaini Children’s Home and School is the unwavering dedication of headmaster Sylvestre Nibitanga, who started the school with a deep compassion for children in need and a personal commitment to give them not just an education, but a place to belong, grow, and discover hope for their future.
This mission began with a simple but powerful vision: to bring hope to children who had none—one child at a time, offering not just education, but love, safety, and the chance to dream again.
The school and children’s home are located in Bujumbura, in Burundi, serving children from the surrounding communities as well as orphaned and abandoned children who live at the home.
The school currently educates 250 students from Grade 1 through Grade 7. In addition, 40 orphaned and abandoned children live in the children’s home, where they receive full-time care, education, and support.
The children living in the home receive:
Safe housing
Nutritious daily meals
Clothing and basic necessities
Education and school supplies
Christian mentorship and guidance
A loving and stable environment
The goal is to provide children not only with care, but with hope and opportunity for the future.
Yes. The school operates with a Christian foundation, integrating biblical values with the national curriculum. Students are encouraged to grow academically while also learning principles such as integrity, compassion, service, and faith.
While we do not offer direct one-to-one child sponsorship, we regularly feature children from the school and children’s home so you can see the lives your generosity is impacting.
